William Hutcheson

For over half a century, in Scots and English, and in different registers, William Hutcheson’s poetry covered many themes, including rural life in the West of Scotland, shipbuilding on the Clyde, and the First World War.

Isobel Wylie Hutchison

Born in the late 1880s, Isobel Wylie Hutchison overcame the constraints that the age, her class, and her own personality placed upon her, to become a solo adventurer in the far North, an accomplished plant collector and a successful poet and writer.

Kathleen Jamie

Kathleen Jamie is a poet, essayist and travel writer. She has been Professor of Poetry at the University of Stirling since 2010.

Hugh MacDiarmid

{ Poet }

Hugh MacDiarmid (C.M. Grieve) was Scotland’s most influential and controversial writer in the 20th century. He urged and enabled the regeneration of all aspects of Scotland’s literature and culture through his poetry, polemical writing and political activity.

Edwin Morgan

{ Poet }

Morgan was Glasgow’s first Poet Laureate 1999-2002, and the first to hold the post of Scots Makar, created by the Scottish Executive in 2004 to recognise the achievement of Scottish poets throughout the centuries.
